Taxi from JFK

I am planning my first ever trip to NYC in the first week of May. I have read all the tips here regarding transfers from JFK to Manhattan and have decided a yellow cab is the easiest and less stressful option though the most expensive! Am I right in assuming that if I hand over $60 each way to the driver for the trip from the Delta terminal to the Affinia Dumont on E 34th St I would be doing the right thing?

Hope you are all having a good day. It%26#39;s lovely and sunny here in Belfast but quite cold 42 F The weather is warmer in New York I see.

Anyway, back to important business...

I am looking for the various ways to get from Newark Airport to our hotel: The Cosmopolitan Hotel 鈥?Tribeca

Best way to get to Cosmopolitan Hotel from Newark airport

You%26#39;re best not using a taxi but could order a car service which will cost ~ $60-70.

You can take an Express Airport bus to Port Authority bus terminal in NYC for $15/person and from there, options are subway for $2/person which will require up and down stairs with luggage or taxi for about $10-12.

You can also use the train from the airport which I think is the cheapest option at ~ $10/person. You%26#39;d get the AirTrain to Newark Penn station and from there the PATH train to the World Trade Center in NYC which is not far from the hotel.

Just to clarify what nywhiz said about taking the train: you would take the Airtrain from your terminal at Newark Airport to the New Jersey Transit train station at Newark Liberty Airport, at which point you would catch a New Jersey Transit train from the Newark Airport station to Newark Penn Station. You would then get off the New Jersey Transit train and get the PATH train to World Trade Center station. From there you would have about a four block walk to the Cosmopolitan Hotel. For an extra six or seven dollars you could take the New Jersey Transit train all the way to New York Penn Station, where you could take the number 1, 2, or 3 subway downtown to the Chambers Street station, which is literally steps from the Cosmopolitan Hotel.

Unless toting/wheeling luggage is a challenge to a member of your party from the World Trade Center PATH station, don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s worth the extra money to travel further uptown via PATH and then take the subway down to Chambers St; in addition to the extra expense, that will take up more time and require 2 more transfers.

Congrats on making a hotel decison! I think you%26#39;ll be comfortable and content there %26amp; I%26#39;m quite fond of the Tribeca neighborhood, ENJOY

TriBeCa is a great area and you%26#39;ll enjoy it.

Sounds like you%26#39;re flying Continental%26#39;s nonstop Belfast - Newark flight. You%26#39;ll like Continental, they do a very good job. You might be surprised how short the flight seems.

It is widely suggested you avoid the local Newark taxicabs. Lots of problems and complaints there. If you choose a sedan, prearrange a sedan through All State or Dial 7. I prefer All State, www.allstatelimo.com but both are perfectly fine.

I generally take public transportation in from Newark Airport. I simply jump on AirTrain Newark inside the terminal and take it to the Rail Transfer Station where I get the NJTransit train. AirTrain Newark is like a monorail that goes around the terminals, it is really easy and straightforward.

You can simply make an across the platform transfer at Newark Penn Station to the PATH train to the World Trade Center. It is directly across the platform, hard to miss.

A taxi from Newark Airport to Newark Penn Station is also an option. For that you can use a local taxi but make sure the driver doesn%26#39;t try to talk you into letting him drive you into Manhattan. In fact, if he asks where you%26#39;re going, just say you%26#39;re getting a train to Boston.

The hotel is an easy walk from the PATH station.

I%26#39;m visiting New York next week from the UK and trying to work out the best way to pay for things while I%26#39;m there. Am I cheaper getting cash from a UK shop (if so which one) or changing money when I am across there? I%26#39;ve seen some credit cards are a good deal but I probably won%26#39;t be able to get hold of one in the time I have left

Advice Radio City Apartments or Club Quarters Midtown

I have been reading these boards for the past few months as my family prepare%26#39;s for my daughter%26#39;s high school graduation vacation. They have really helped me to learn a ton about New York City. But I do have a question regarding where to stay. What location would be better to stay in radio city apartments or club quarters midtown? It seems that both places are close to Times Square which is of course our daughter%26#39;s main point of interest but we also will want to hit most of the other main attractions as well while we are there. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I%26#39;ve stayed in the Club Quarters Midtown and booked family/friends into the Radio City Apartments. The Club Quarters%26#39; quarters were built with an eye to the person traveling on business. They are compact with generally tiny bathrooms not much room for storage or luggage (my room, not the smallest they offer, had NO closet or hanging rod). Think of the units as being akin to being on board a ship, and you won%26#39;t be disappointed.

Bottom line: perfectly fine for 1-2 people, but CQ Midtown wouldn%26#39;t be where I would choose to stay when traveling en famille with a teen.

now that you do not need to stay near Times Square

As an example lets say you found a property on 72

street on the west side. 30 blocks walking. One

stop on the subway, about 3-4 minutes. All I am

saying is do not let proximity to Times Sq be your

prime motivator in a location. Especially traveling

with a family there are more important criteria.

I have stayed in both of these hotels, and I would choose Radio City. Both are well-located if you want to be near Times Square, but you have more room at Radio City, and there is a kitchen if that is important to you. The rooms at Club Quarters are very small, and the bathroom is ridiculously small (if you are tall, there is very little leg room, if you know what I mean!) As was mentioned above, you don%26#39;t need to stay near Times Square to see everything, but as the parent of a young adult, I understand that they may have a different idea of what is a ';cool'; place to stay. Radio City is nothing fancy, but is clean and roomy. I have reservations to stay there for the second time in June.

Jersey Boys or Wicked

Hi! Slowly working my way towards an itinerary. We have 3 teens, 16 and 15 year old boys and a 13 year old girl. Which do you think is better? We haven%26#39;t seen anything except for Lion King years ago (which we all loved).

Also, tix on Broadway Box for both shows show some in the Orchesta, rows 3 or 4 for a certain price, but then there are some about 20 rows back for a higher price. Is it preferable to sit a little further back?

For that age group, definitely Wicked. Jersey Boys has some raw language, PLUS if your teens have no clue who the Four Seasons are they will care less.

I would rather be 4 rows back than 20 rows back, any day, any play.

Both are great shows.. Yes at a musical it is preferable to sit a little further back depending on

the pitch of the stage and the positioning of the

orchestra. I would say if the theater is charging more

for those further back they consider them better seats.

If you%26#39;re buying the tix via Broadway Box, the actual vendor is a ticket broker, who is either selling them from its own pre-purchased inventory or acting as the agent for someone else -- who might be hoping for a windfall. So pricing is not necessarily indicative of which are the better seats; plus, some people (like me) prefer to be further back while others like warmwinds would rather sit closer.

Is one set of tickets closer to the center than the other?

I am buying via Broadway Box and I believe the tix up front may be toward the center. I think I will go with Wicked and the 3rd or 4th row. I%26#39;m getting so excited now! Thank you! What does one wear? Here in Los Angeles I would dress nicely; I%26#39;m assuming its that same?

Miss Manners would tell you that standards here are slipping re: dressing for the theatre. My family and friends do ';dress'; for the theatre, opera, etc., and we%26#39;re not alone -- although we don%26#39;t get quite as togged out as some of the Russian women from Brighton Beach (Brooklyn) who sail down the aisle swathed in fur coats and twinkling, true cocktail/evening wear :-)

These days one sees all matter of dress in the

theater and no one seems to worry about it. Just go

and have a good time.

Fellow Californian. Broadway is WAY dressed down compared to our standard theater garb here in L.A. (who%26#39;d have thunk, right?). I%26#39;ve noticed that little kids tend to be in party dresses but the majority of older kids and adults are in jeans or slacks (with of course a few on the higher end, and a few on the ripped jeans end!).

Where to get the best price tickets for ';Wicked';

Can any expert advise me where to get the best price tickets ? I tried Ticketmaster, but the seats are not ideal as it is not the best seats in the front of the theatre. When I checked other websites selling tickets, they do have good seats, but the pricing is too high.

Please help as I only have 1 night to watch the musical.

Wicked is a very popular show and there are no discounts around. Tickmaster is the normal source for tickets. All the others are ticket agents who resell tickets at higher prices. You have to make a decision--pay more or not sit in the front. ( which personally I never do in a show--I dislike it) Where are the seats from Tickmaster located. They may not be as';best'; but they may also be more than acceptable.

I%26#39;m planning on eating @ Katz%26#39;s for lunch the day we visit the Tenement Museum. If I%26#39;ve used Hopstop and Google maps correctly, I think they are in close proximity to each other. Perhaps one of the locals can verify this?

Katz is right up the street from the Tenament museum. Very close. We ate lunch at Katz and went exploring down a side street and ran right into the Tenament Museum (and were so disappointed that we hadn%26#39;t scheduled a visit! It%26#39;s on our list for our next trip!).

Our two visitors have already nailed it but here is

a vote for Katz%26#39;s. If you want to see what it is like

rent the movie ';when Harry met Sally'; and have what

she%26#39;s having. If you don%26#39;t get that just watch the

movie. There are other places but Katz%26#39;s is true

New York.

The sandwich portions at Katz are huge. I mean really big, enough for 4 people. Try to pick something you can share or plan on bringing the remainder back to your hotel fridge.

There are a lot of better alternatives to the %26#39;fast food%26#39; heart attack pastrami sandwiches at Katz%26#39;s Deli. Just walk a block or two further down Houston Street and eat at the %26#39;Clinton Bakery%26#39;. Or take the train one stop to Broadway %26amp; Houston and walk over to %26#39;Tomoe%26#39; (for sushi) or %26#39;Lupa%26#39; (for Italian) both on Thompson Street. Katz%26#39;s is a filled with tourist ..... which kinda makes it a ..... %26#39;tourist trap%26#39;.

Also - Right near the Tenement Museum - closer than Katz%26#39;s are several small interesting restaurants -- I think the one I%26#39;ve eaten in is on the SE corner of Orchard and Grand but I%26#39;ve been interested in the ones near by. If you want huge hunks of great pastrami go to Katz%26#39;s - otherwise, read menus - look inside -- try what seems right to you when you are there.

I like Katz and I think if you%26#39;re a tourist in the neighborhood it%26#39;s worth a one-time stop. The last time we were there was in Sept. during the Feast of St. Gennaro and one of the waitresses brought ciambellina/zeppole back to the restaurant to share! (they were delicious and still warm, amazing). As others have said though, there%26#39;s better food just around the corner.

My husband and I had great glasses of champagne and apps. at some little French brasserie (did I spell it right? usually I spell it so it references lingerie) in that area...people were sitting at tables outside in front of the place. It was packed and very good. Of course I can%26#39;t remember the name of the restaurant. They only took cash.

If it%26#39;s something light that you want there%26#39;s a cafe on the quite close to the museum shop called 88 Orchard (it%26#39;s on the corner of Orchard and Broome). It%26#39;s an interesting place..

For dessert go to Il laboratorio del Gelato right by the museum

Another vote for Katz%26#39;s. Take a short walk to little Italy and have some dessert at Ferraro%26#39;s on Grand Street.
