Is it possible to visit NYC on a small budget? Sorry if I ask what seems to be really stupid questions! LOL. My room needs to be clean and bug free. I don%26#39;t care if it is a little dated as long as it does not have offensive odors:) I don%26#39;t mind staying further away from the tourist area if it is going to save me money but I do not really want to go too far where I have to travel longer than 30-35 minutes to get to the touristy area. I am hoping to spend less than 100 per night. Would love to spend about 55 a night but I do not want to share a room with bugs or anyone else. I am also driving so... should I look to stay in NJ with free parking and use public transit to get too the %26#39;city%26#39; or drive to the city and pay for parking somewhere, or stay in the city and pay for parking anyway??? Do any hotels close to times square have free parking? I would love to go to NYC but is it possible to do so if I do not want to spend more than 100 bucks on a room and parking???
Any advice would be great!!!
Low budget trip??
Only one hotel in Manhattan has free parking--the Travel Inn:

Sorry, for a clean room with no bugs, you need to pay extra.
When are you coming? How long is your visit?
Where are you driving from? You could park in NJ the whole time and then get your car at the end of your visit.
From another post: ';Another option is parking at one of the ferry terminals and taking a ferry across the river. Parking at the Weehawken terminal is $8-10/day (plus the cost of the ferry)';

The best way to do a budget trip is to pick the time you come very carefully. Certain months are much more expensive than others. We%26#39;re just ending a slow period (Jan-March) and as the weather improves, hotel prices go up. Summer holiday weekends are also a good time and July/August is usually cheaper.
That said, the economy has had a drastic affect on NYC hotel prices and they%26#39;re lower than they%26#39;ve been in years. You can find some very good deals now especially on Hotwire or by bidding on Priceline. As for the car, depending on where you%26#39;re coming from, you could park it outside Manhattan and get into Manhattan by train or bus.
There are hotels outside Manhattan in Queens (Long Island City) or New Jersey (Jersey City, Hoboken and Secaucus) that will be cheaper and have free or less expensive parking, but imo, for a first visit, staying in Manhattan is better and since there are now ways to get an inexpensive room, I%26#39;d try that first before compromising and staying elsewhere.
qb - come on now - people are going to ask how much!
Or they%26#39;ll just feel insulted and go away.
Got to treat the newbies with kid gloves.
And if you believe all that - I%26#39;ve still got that bridge for sale..........
The bugs do not pay for their half of the room? Well that is just rude! Do they at least pick up the parking tab or buy me a meal?
Thanks for all the replies so far. I am planning for a weekend soon...this weekend, next weekend...etc. I was also thinking it might be a good idea to visit during the week. Cheaper? Less crowded?
I saw ukdiva post about the Ramada in Jersey City for approx $73 per night earlier today, but didn%26#39;t see what dates they were for. I%26#39;d look into that.

Might help you find some bargains.
Visit during the week - less crowded - well not with the hundreds of thousands of daily commuters coming to work and those coming for business staying in hotels who can change a good rate for that experience.....
Also your budget for lodging is quite unrealistic....where are you driving in from - perhaps you should ditch the car, use public transport parking is very costly,
FYI, the NYC School Spring Break is April 9 - 19. I%26#39;d try to come before or after that.
Hmmm...so much to think about:) Thanks!!!
I was not trying to be unrealistic. I was hoping someone knew a few secrets about nice, cheap places to stay:)
Loads of people have won rooms in very good hotels for this weekend by bidding on Priceline. Look at the win calendar on

to see who got what. Whether those deals are still available, I don%26#39;t know. I think you could get the Hudson Hotel (3.5* midtown central) for under $100/night but there are no guarantees and rooms there are very very small.
