I%26#39;m looking for a drive/train alternative from DC to NYC. Years ago there was a WashPost article about a train station just off NJ turnpike where you could park your car in a covered garage for $5 night. It seems the train ride from there was +/- 30 minutes. I can%26#39;t for the life of me remember the station name, even though I parked there 5 or so years ago.
Thanks

Sorry, don%26#39;t know much about the Jersey side of things, other than that New Jersey Transit will drop you off in Penn Station (34th street between 7th %26amp; 8th)
Have you thought of taking Amtrak up from Union Station in DC to NY, Penn station? They have very reasonable prices and a lot of different schedules. Definatly less aggravation than driving up I-97 and no tolls, no traffic jams....gets you to NYC in 3-3.5 hours.
Amtrak might even have a local stop closer to where you live in VA.....

Was it Metropark?

My out-of-town friends %26amp; relatives often park in the Metropark garage (and yes, it%26#39;s only $5/day) and take a NJ Transit train. Works beautifully for them :-)
Yes, thank you it was Metropark!
MetroPark station (in Iselin New Jersey) is excellent, easy on / easy off highway access, inexpensive parking, 24 hour security, covered parking in the garage, frequent trains, low NJ Transit roundtrip fares, it is definitely the place to park.
Mtro park is $5 for th first 16 hours, 16-20 is $7 and 20-24 is $9. Hrer are a couple of links

Don%26#39;t know why this posted twice.
What exit off of the turnpike? Thanks.
NJ Turnpike Exit 11 to the Garden State Parkway North; stay in the right-hand lane of the GSP and get off at the first exit marked Metropark [hard to miss, there%26#39;s even a train icon on the signs] -- exit 131A. You%26#39;ll go through a corporate park... and make a right at the first intersection %26amp; then turn left at the next light and you%26#39;re there. It%26#39;s well marked.
I remember being pleasantly surprised by the drop in rates when I stashed my car there for a weekend last summer before Amtrak%26#39;ing it down to DC. But perhaps they have returned to the former pricing. The self-service machines do give change (in $1 coins) up to a certain amount, and there is always an attendant on duty in the office on the first level, towards the rear past the elevators.
