Itinerary for 1st trip to NYC

Whoa cowboy. If your flight lands on time at noon, you MIGHT be able to make it down to the Federal Reserve Bank at 3:30. Then going all the way up to the Guggenheim after that is quite a schlepp. Have you looked at the distance? I wouldn%26#39;t personally attempt this, especially at that hour on a Fri. afternoon in rush hour, unless there%26#39;s something really special at the Guggenheim you HAVE to see. And even if there is, there%26#39;s time on Sun. to do that and spend some time in Central Park.

Instead of going up to the Guggenheim, I%26#39;d head back to midtown and either go to Top of the Rock or Mme Tussaud%26#39;s, both of which are not far from your hotel and the dinner restaurant. The rest sounds fine but wonder why you chose the Guggenheim and the AMNH vs. the Met or MOMA?

Itinerary for 1st trip to NYC

Assuming the flight lands on time, I figured we%26#39;d have our luggage and be out of the airport by 1pm, taking a taxi to our hotel by 2pm, checking in, and then have 1hr to walk or subway it to the Federal Reserve Bank. 3:30pm is the last tour of the day, and there are no tours on Sat or Sun.

I was thinking of doing the Guggenheim on Friday as well, mainly because it%26#39;s free from 5:45 - 7:45, and also because it%26#39;s only at 15 minute walk from Kefi, where we%26#39;re having dinner that night. I haven%26#39;t used the subway in NYC before, but will it really be that difficult to get from the Federal Reserve Bank to the Guggenheim at that time of day.

No real reason for museum choices, though neither of us are really all that big into museums or art galleries, so don%26#39;t really plan on spending to much time in them. Picked the Guggenheim mainly because it is free when we were thinking of going, and because it%26#39;s close to the restaurant we%26#39;re eating at that night.

hello fellow Kitchenerite. I am also going to say skip the guggenheim and head to MOMA - even if you aren%26#39;t a big museum freak you will love this place! Did you look into Big Apple Greeters (.org I think) they are volunteers who give 2-4 hour free walking tours - have been with them twice and can%26#39;t say enough good things about them. They come to your hotel and meet you with metro passes for the bus or subway. Hope you have a great time.

We tried to get a Big Apple Greeter, but they didn%26#39;t have any available for the days we%26#39;ll be in NYC.

Any museum with free hours is going to have about an hour wait to get inside. Keep that in mind when you plan this.

If you go anywhere at night go to the Rainbow Rooms at the Rockerfeller Centre, the view of Manhattan is amazing, youve got to go up the Empire State, have a look in Grand Central Station, the memorial museum at Ground Zero is heartbreaking but amazing,NYC rules.

Del Frisco%26#39;s is one of my favorite places here in NYC and didn%26#39;t realize they have prefix dinner - congrats on knowing that. One word of advice is to inform your server when you sit down that you have tickets for the theatre - this way they can time it right and you won%26#39;t be running to catch Guys %26amp; Dolls.

Also love Mesa Grill - go Bobby Flay.

We%26#39;re thinking of just grabbing a cab from the Newark aiport to our hotel near Times Square. I%26#39;ve looked into the train and bus a little, but figured with 2 of us sharing a cab, the savings wouldn%26#39;t be that significant taking the train or bus.

Should we just grab a cab outside the airport, or make reservations with a car service?

Any other suggestions to make our trip as fun and stress-free as possible, are more than welcome.

Hi there-

We%26#39;re also planning a trip. I was looking up DelFrisco, but can%26#39;t find anything about the $40 fixed price menu. Do you know where I can find info on that?

Thanks so much,

Tammy

Tammy,

I read about the fixed price menu on some restaurant review website - can%26#39;t remember which one. You are correct that Del Frisco%26#39;s doesn%26#39;t mention it anywhere on their website, but they confirmed it over the phone when I called to make reservations. It%26#39;s only available from 5pm - 6:30pm, and the last reservation time that can order it is at 6pm.
