48 hrs time in New York....No itinerary! Help!

We are a couple early 30%26#39;s first time to New York this Thursday to Monday, staying in the Salisbury Hotel. Have been reading up on all the posts in the last month(just overwhelmed) and looked up the weather forecast for weekend and given down rain (as we didnt have enough of that all year in Ireland!!) I dont think we have the ';will ';to walk around in the rain for the whole weekend ( i dont do rain gear), every site seems to give different weather of days of rain. We not into museums/art/broadway, enjoy shopping of course(but on a budget) We will be getting the 7 day metro pass, as we dont want to be getting taxis. What are the best pubs/bars near our hotel (live bands??) restaurants(as will only be visting one per night), like all sorts especially chinese/Italian/barbeque, pub grub type places as we dont want to be walking too far in the rain, but where do we start?? I was so looking forward to just taking in the sites, as really enjoy walking, but now with the rain, we really need an itinerary. Like when we wake up on Friday morning, where do we start. HELP!! Sorry and thanks, just starting to panic now....

When you get here, buy a guide book like Formmer%26#39;s or Fodors. They have good 1, 2 and 3 day pre-made itineraries if you want to doo some sightseeing.

My better half will just follow me and give out when we are lost and dont know what or where we going!!! But its been raining in Ireland for 2 years non stop and everytime i have gone anywhere in the last year, also rained (so pls forgive me)

Sorry another ';weather'; question, how cold is it now? Will coat and jumper do? Or are we talking about hat/scarf/gloves etc

I doubt it will rain all day every day while you are there as my daughter is there now and I had been keeping an eye on the weather forecast...I guarantee you that you will be so overwhelmed by what you will see that you won%26#39;t even notice the rain! Get a good map and small guide book and see where you would like to go. There are great threads on this form about shopping..I went to Woodbury Common and found it great.

Pubs, pubs do we not have enough of those at home? If you enter ';restaurants near Salisbury Hotel%26#39; in the little while box over your post you will get loads of info on where to eat near your hotel. There are zillions of eating places in the City.

So wrap up, buy a real fancy umbrella, lighten up and enjoy yourself. I guarantee you you will have a ball!!
