I will be coming to New York in October (exact dates not set yet, but 7-12, 8-13 or 9-14). Will be traveling with my 10 yo daughter and my sister. We could stay in a Double Double type room, but I think a suite of 2 rooms would be better (daughter is always up early, sister sleeps in). Most of what we are wanting to do is on the East side of Manhattan, easily accessible by subway.
We have a reservation at Chelsea Pines, $329/ night. Reviews say the rooms are quite small. This has one queen bed and a daybed in separate room.
I see the Hotel Belleclaire on Quikbook for $301/ night. Reviews say the rooms are good size. This would be 2 bedrooms, no sitting area.
And just to throw something else completely in there, I see Eastgate Tower, 1 BR suite with 2 doubles, kitchen and living room for $285/ night. This one would require a bit of a hike to Grand Central every day....
Any hotel experts have any thoughts? Could I do better by waiting?
Hotel Belleclaire or Chelsea Pines Inn?YOu need to look at a map. The first 2 are no where near Grand Central. The EAstgate Tower is practically on top of it and is the only one on the east side. But why would you need to go to Grand Central every day? I%26#39;m confused. These prices also sound very high.
Hotel Belleclaire or Chelsea Pines Inn?Sorry! I%26#39;m directionally challenged. I meant most of what we want to do is on the WEST side, making the first 2 choices better. I just checked hopstop and Eastgate to GC is only about 6 blocks. You are right, not so bad.
So in saying that the prices are high, do you think I should wait?
I still don%26#39;t understand what Grand Central has to do with anything. It%26#39;s on the east side. If everything you want to see is on the west side, what relevance does it have? (apart from being a beautiful place to visit or eat?)
I don%26#39;t understand why you%26#39;ve selected those 2 places. They%26#39;re nowhere near each other. Right now the prices you%26#39;re seeing for Oct. are just rack rates. If you really want 2 rooms, you%26#39;d probably be better off bidding on Priceline for 2 rooms to have more privacy and 2 bathrooms.
I meant that GC is the closest station to Eastgate, so if we stay there, we will have to walk to GC everyday to get to the things we want to do on the west side.
Thanks for your help!
It%26#39;s a 5 minute walk from Eastgate to Grand Central and I think it%26#39;s the best of the 3 options you list. It gives you more space, a kitchen, 2 tvs and a table and chairs. The 2 bedroom at the Belleclaire is just that, 2 bedrooms no living room. I would book the Eastgate as cancelable and keep an eye out for sales between now and your trip. If you haven%26#39;t confirmed dates, it might also be worth checking air/hotel packages. While I%26#39;m not usually a fan, sometimes they do yield some bargains.
Ack! Now I have expedia.ca saying $1845 CAD, which works out to about $250/ night USD, with taxes in for the Eastgate. There would be a $31 CAD cancel/change fee. I don%26#39;t think I%26#39;m likely to do better than that, but it has to be paid at time of booking.
If Expedia has those prices, other websites might too unless that%26#39;s part of an air/hotel package. Have you checked that? How can you book when you weren%26#39;t sure about dates per your post above? Have you looked in quikbook?
I have checked all the links from tripadvisor (expedia, booking.com, priceline.com, hotels.com), quikbook, affinia.com.... Even expedia.com doesn%26#39;t have such a good rate. I had to check it a few times to be sure! It%26#39;s not part of a package (we are flying with aeroplan points), and I just put in the 7-12 to check (8-13 is actually cheaper). Maybe I should wait and see if anyone else will offer the same, but no cancellation fee and not prepaid.
