Hi there I require some guidance please.
I am traveling to Pittsburg for a conference in June flying into JFK,hire a car and drive to Pittsburg (I am stopping off on the way),then back to Washington for 3 days, then 4/5 days in New York City and then fly out of Newark.
After doing the sights in Washington (any suggestions on where to stay and what to see for my first vist) I will be then driving to NYC.
1/Should I get rid of the car when I get into NYC and if so what is best way to get back to Newark for an early am flight with 3/4 large bags? Hotel at the airport?
2/I am told I do not need a car to cover the main tourist sights and see a couple of shows/visit some bars etc
3/Is the Times Square area the best place to stay to cover the sightseeing and if the suggestion is do not need a car can most of the popular sights be covered by the metro?
Thanks in advance

You absolutely, positively do not need a car. Having a car would be a huge expense for no gain, since you wouldn%26#39;t be able to drive it anywhere.
Just like London, the major sights of NYC are spread out and all easily accessible by subway. Staying in/near Times Square is like staying in/near Piccadilly Circus when visiting London--it works for some people, while others hate it. If you think you%26#39;re the kind of person who would stay in PC when visiting your town, then yes, Times Square will be good for you.
