Anniversary Dinner Reservation Suggestions?

Hi All.

I would like to book a nice dinner for our first anniversary on the 28th of June. Any suggestions? Last trip to NYC my wife wanted to visit Tavern on the Green but we never got a chance so that is one place I am thinking. We are also fans of Gordon Ramsay so I was considering Maze or Ramsay at the London. I%26#39;d prefer to visit somewhere with a fixed price 5-7 course meal so I am open to any suggestions anywhere. Budget is around $100 per person but I don%26#39;t mind anything under, or a bit over.

Thanks!

Whew, glad you found this forum. You coulda been in the doghouse a looooong time.

1. Tavern on the Green has mediocre ';catering hall'; food, but it is very pretty.

Read reviews here:

You can also type ';TOTG'; or ';Tavern on the Green'; in the forum search box to see what others have said.

2. I%26#39;m not familiar with any prix fixe multi-course meal at that price. I%26#39;m sure more foodie people will chime in.

We just went to Cafe des Artistes (which is, coincidentally, across the street from TOTG) and it is GREAT! Romantic, great service, nice food.

3. Do you have a food/cuisine preference? Or are you into the Celeb Chefs?

rivercafe.com

is probably the most popular special occasion restaurant on this forum. The food is very good (not the best in NYC but very good) and there are killer views of the Manhattan skyline. The food is $100/person so with drinks, tax and tip it will be closer to $150/person I%26#39;d guess.

bateauxnewyork.com

is another idea. Food not quite as good as River Cafe but very lovely experience with live music and dancing and great views.

Many Brits like Gordon Ramsay but Americans are usually less impressed. I think Blue Hill is a very good restaurant and romantic.

One of the city`s most romantic restaurants is One if by Land, Two if by Sea (oneifbyland.com) in Greenwich Village. There is a prix fixe three course option for $78 and a chef`s tasting 6 course menu for $95. Wine pairings for this are an additional $55. This is a beautiful place.

Gramercy Tavern has 6 courses for $112/person:

The Modern has 7 courses for $125/person:

If you want Italian, Babbo has 8 courses for $75/person:

I totally agree with QB - I went to Tavern on the Green for my birthday one year - I was so disappointed. Feels very touristy.

NYWhiz%26#39;s suggestion of The River Cafe is an excellent one. It has wonderful food, a great view and service is good (without being OTT). I would highly recommend this restaurant. It%26#39;s definitley one you will always remember.

We walked out of Babbo before being seated; the noise level and the 1980%26#39;s techno music blaring wasn%26#39;t our idea of the ambiance we wanted for a special occasion dinner.

I%26#39;d like to suggest Scalini Fedeli in Tribeca. Its Zagat scores are food: 27; decor:24; and service: 25 -- which compare very favorably to, e.g., Babbo%26#39;s 27/23/24 and One If By Land%26#39;s 24/27/24. SF%26#39;s 3-course tasting menu ($65) offers many choices, including fish entrees; the 5-course tasting menu is $90; an extensive wine list that is not unreasonably marked up in price %26amp; includes a fair number of half bottles. SF is both lovely and comfortable -- upholstered chairs, tables not close together, a gracious atmosphere without being stuffy.

Wishing you a happy anniversary, and many more in the years to follow!

We did the Bateaux dinner cruise and Gordon Ramsay at The Maze last July, out of the two I%26#39;d definitely reccommend the dinner cruise

Thanks for the replies... Number of courses really isn%26#39;t important and I%26#39;m sure a 3 course meal would be wonderful as well. As for Ramsay restaurants, we enjoy his TV shows and thought it would be cool to try. We may try Maze for lunch one day as I%26#39;ve seen suggested to others on the forum.

Thanks for the tip on TOTG, we%26#39;ll stay away for our anniversary dinner.

The type of food isn%26#39;t overly important - we enjoy just about everything. Thanks for all the suggestions, definately have some reading up to do!
