NYC Itinerary w/ kids ??

Everything is all set to go and I am trying to just rough out a gameplan with my 2 kids who are 10 and 8. We are there for 4 days end of April so:

Day 1 do Central Park the zoo walk around just chill.

Day 2 start at a deli for to Am. Girl, do Top of the Rock, then see Phantom.

Day 3 Shopping - NEED RECOMMENDATIONS FOR GIRLS AGES 10 and 8 is it just Macy%26#39;s or is there like a costume jewelery store we can go to and get something not too crazily priced? NY Public Library and Grand Central.

Day 4 fly home in afternoon so maybe go to deli in am for breakfast and hang out somewhere.

Let me know your thoughts. Also any recommendations for Korean food?? Any nice restaurants that are intimate but not $200 an entree??

Just so we%26#39;re clear, what exactly do you mean by ';deli';? In NYC, ';deli'; can mean one of two things: 1.) a place where you get huge pastrami and corned beef sandwiches, like Katz%26#39;s or Carnegie, or 2.) a small convenience store that also has some prepared foods. (Younger people call these ';bodegas'; rather than ';delis.';) Which of those are you referring to?

Regarding your itinerary, you don%26#39;t have a lot on there. On Day 2, for instance, American Girl and the TOTR are going to take you 2-3 hours at the most, so you have room to add other things you might be interested in. Have you seen the page on must-see%26#39;s and must-do%26#39;s?

Re: ';nice restaurants';: what sorts of food and what is your budget/person?

Don%26#39;t expect too much from the Central park Zoo,

The park itself is fabulous but the zoo is just ok.

If you are big into Zoos check out the Bronx zoo which

can be reached from Manhattan by the subway.

Re Macy%26#39;s - I don%26#39;t know where you are from but

Macy%26#39;s is just a big department store. There are a

million stores that sell the kind of things you are

looking for as well as street vendors. One word of

caution on the street vendors, don%26#39;t try to return

it if you break it 10 minutes later.

Library nice- Grand Central Nice. each for about

30 minutes max

Korean food- check out Korea town which is 32nd or 33rd street near Fifth Ave (sorry I can%26#39;t remember

which) but there are a few restaurants there.

Get subway passes when you get here and take the Staten Island Ferry to and from-- that is free

kids would love it.

The zoo is very cute and great for a couple of hours. If the kids liked ';Madagascar,'; then the Central Park Zoo will be especially fun!

Are you sure they%26#39;ll enjoy Phantom? It%26#39;s a bit heavy and ';operatic.';

What about Little Mermaid, Shrek, Lion King, Wicked, Altar Boyz, Mary Poppins...All are good for adults, too.

All but Wicked and Lion King are available at a discount on a regular basis.

Shopping - ';is there like a costume jewelery store we can go to and get something not too crazily priced?'; Hmmm, training them early I see? ;o)

Costume jewelery and tchatchke stores to check out are:

Laila Rowe

Ricky%26#39;s Cosmetics (a MUST!)

Filene%26#39;s Basement

Pylones

Strawberry%26#39;s

Various locations. You can look them up on:

www.yelp.com/nyc

Century 21 has an excellent NYC souvenir, kiddie accessory and toy selection in the lower level.

The NYPL and GCT are great ideas.

If they are learning a bit of American History (I don%26#39;t know where you are from) you can take them to the location where George Washington was sworn in as our first President, at Federal Hall. It%26#39;s close to he Staten Island Ferry and South Street Seaport, which would be a great combo for a day.

Crans, they%26#39;re going to a matinee of Phantom on day 2 so I think American Girl and Top of the Rock are fine for the morning. I had suggested John%26#39;s for a pizza lunch then matinee. After the matinee, what about going to the wax museum? It%26#39;s pricey but there%26#39;s a discount on

broadwaybox.com

For costume jewelry, Earrings Plaza between 32nd and 31st on Broadway is good and near Macy%26#39;s. Here%26#39;s a good thread that may give you other ideas

The girls might like eating in Ellen%26#39;s Stardust diner with the singing waitstaff. I think breakfast there might not be a bad idea.
