Waterfalls in October?

I am planning a trip to the Finger Lakes in October. I have several questions:

1. Are the waterfalls worth going to see? Will they still be running?

2. Should I go in early October to get the best fall foliage?

3. Totally different question that the first 2, is there any nightlife in the area?

Thanks!

LOL! ';Will they still be running?'; It%26#39;s not like they turn on and off with the flip of a switch!

A hike up the flume gorge in Watkins Glen is a great way to spend a couple of hours on a nice weather day!

If it is a nice day, you should enjoy the gorge in Watkins, there will be water. If you are hoping for nice fall foliage, you will have to follow the weather and see what happens. The leaves turn after our first frost. Usually around 10/12 is prime but it can be much later if it stays warm. Visiting the wineries on Keuka and Seneca Lake is an excellent way to view the leaves and surrounding countryside. Corning%26#39;s Market Street is a nice place for some nightlife with many bars and restaurants. http://www.gafferdistrict.com/

Haha oops I guess I wasn%26#39;t clear there. I have been to several falls that are dried up in the fall due to lack of rain.

Thanks so much for the advice. Gaffer District is just what I was looking for. I will also be sure to hike the gorge.

Any other advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Roosterfish Pub in Watkins Glen (south end of Seneca Lake) is always hopping if there%26#39;s a game on, though that%26#39;s about the only night life right in that town.

Ithaca (south end of Cayuga lake) is a college town, so there%26#39;s plenty of night life there.

In addition to the gorge in Watcking Glen State Park there are small state parks dotted along the shores of several of the lakes, and due to the area%26#39;s unique topography, many of them feature waterfalls (though nothing as spectacular as the gorge).

We have been going to the FL%26#39;s every Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend for the pat 9 years (mid-October), and have never been disappointed for fall colours!

Prime foliage date is no later than 10/15.

You should definitely check out the gorges around Ithaca - the highest waterfall (straight drop) east of the Rockies is in Taughannock Falls State Park (10 miles from Ithaca). Buttermilk and Robert Treman State Parks are also nearby. Both of these parks have also beautiful falls. The foliage will be spectacular at all three places. The hike at Treman is the best of the bunch (even better than Watkins, IMHO).

There are plenty of good restaurants and nightlife options in Ithaca.
