Restaurant by City Winery

I have friends coming into town and we have tickets to a show on a Thursday night at City Winery on Varick street (between Spring and Vandam streets).

Does anyone know a decent restaurant in the area. I don%26#39;t know the area at all.

While my hubby and I love all foods, our friends are a little pickier, so Italian, American, etc would be good. Moderate price levels would be best for our guests as well.

On tripadvisor they say Villa Mosconi is .3 miles away, is that a good choice?

Villa Mosconi is an ';old school'; traditional southern Italian restaurant that would be like going back in a time capsule. (In the Zagat guide they say circa 1976). I haven%26#39;t been there in years but it seems to still get good reviews on menupages.com and decent rating for food in Zagat.

If you%26#39;re going to eat early before the show, Bistro Les Amis has a good prix fixe for $26 that offers basics like steak %26amp; chicken as entrees. It%26#39;s a bit closer than Villa Mosconi.

Another idea for Italian is La Lanterna.

NYWHiZ, those look great too. Its hard when you have people come in from out of town and are not use to city pricing. I am very careful to try pick a lower cost option not to brake their bank.

I would recommend Bistro Les Ames on 189 Spring (at Thompson). We had dinner there before going to the winery for a show. Cute place, excellent service, good food. Just a couple blocks from the Winery.
