Downturn in the number of Tourists?

Coming to New York last week in May. Was just wondering if there is a noticeable downturn in the number of tourists visiting New York as a result of the Economy? The number of people posting questions on this forum about forthcoming trips would suggest not.

Downturn in the number of Tourists?

I certainly haven%26#39;t noticed a downturn. I think there are more US tourists, and fewer Brits. The change in the value of the Pound has made a difference with the number of Brits coming over to shop.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I don%26#39;t know if it is the same in the US but the constant negative news reports here in the UK about the economy have you believing that nobody is going anywhere.

Won%26#39;t be doing much shopping when I%26#39;m over but plenty of sightseeing and hopefully a couple of Broadway shows.

hello Sammy--

My grandmother hails from Coatbridge. In NYC

a downturn would mean from 2 gazzillion to 1 gazzillion so not really noticeable. I have noticed it

in some of the higher priced eating establishments.

For Broadway shows make sure to check out TKTS

at 47th and Broadway. Half price tickets the day

of the show and lots of good choices if you haven%26#39;t

seen a lot of shows. Don%26#39;t be discouraged by the

long lines. Once they open it goes fast.

Hi bilmin09

I%26#39;m often in Coatbridge - it has a good Cinema complex.

We are staying at the Doubletree Guest Suites at Times Square. I believe the ticket booth is just across the road.

Hubby would like to see Blithe Spirit (I think that%26#39;s what it is called). We were also thinking of going to Shrek the Musical (14 year old son in tow - he has enjoyed all the Shrek films and the 4D ride at Universal, Orlando).

Son%26#39;s number 1 must see is the Nintendo World Store - hope he is not too disappointed.

I%26#39;m seeing Blithe Spirit tonight - I%26#39;ll report back.

I recommend buying tickets online before you come so you don%26#39;t waste precious vacation time standing in a queue - discounts are available through www.broadwaybox.com (although there aren%26#39;t any discounts through May yet, I%26#39;m positive there will be).

It is very close. However, you only get tickets 1/2

price if they are available. I know Blithe Spirit is

not. My wife is going Saturday night. You may want

to check into getting tickets in advance to see if

they are available when you are here. Call the

theater directly. You will pay dearly to a broker.

Don%26#39;t know about Shrek.

Thanks that would be great. Hope you enjoy it.

Need to sign out now - 14 year old son off school sick today and he is nagging me for his turn on the laptop.

If you go to the site Kate provided, you%26#39;ll see that both Blithe Spirit and Shrek have been available with discounts. You%26#39;ll need to keep checking www.broadwaybox.com as your dates approach, since the discounts only extend a few weeks in advance.

Sammy - you%26#39;ll never notice a downturn in tourism in the area where you are staying - always busy, all the time.

Check www.broadwaybox.com for advance tickets. Blithe Spirit did have some offers on this site - check it out.
