Alternative to shopping near Fulton Street Mall

I%26#39;m going on a bus trip this Saturday to have dinner and see a play in Brooklyn. Part of the agenda is 3 hours of shopping at Fulton Street Mall. I%26#39;m that rare woman who HATES shopping. What else is there for me to do in that area? Sightseeing, people watching from a comfortable perch, museums, a bookstore to browse, a cool bar for drinks...I%26#39;m open to suggestions.

Walk a couple of block to Borough Hall and check out the courthouse square. Then walk on Montague all the way to the water, you will get awesome views of the Manhattan skyline. I assume you will be going during the day - there is an Irish bar on court street on your way to the water where downtowners have lunch, so you can do some people-watching. If it%26#39;s not tooc old, restaurants on Montague have outside seating, as well.

You can also see Brooklyn Bridge park by taking the Jay Street F uptown 2 stops to York street and walking towards the water. The neighborhood is newly-gentrifie DUMBO.

You will probably want to sue whomever planned this

trip. You will not want to spend 3 minutes in the

Fulton Street mall. Follow the directions of the

previous poster and find your way up to Montague

Street where there is some shopping and some

bars but at the end is the Brooklyn Promenade with

a great view of Manhattan or you can go the other way

on Fulton Street and pig out for 3 hours at Juniors

but quickly get off of Fulton Street.

We had transportation problems before leaving Maryland, so we arrived in Brooklyn with no time for shopping. We drove through the Fulton Street Mall area, and noticed that we didn%26#39;t miss anything. It certainly wasn%26#39;t what we call a mall down here.

We went directly to the restaurant, Primo Atto, at 5th Ave. and 4th St. in Brooklyn. We had an outstanding time, great food at a good price, very helpful and flexible servers, and they satisfied our every need. Everyone enjoyed what they ate, and we would all go back there again.

We also stopped in a wine shop on the same block and enjoyed a wine tasting. Several of us purchased wine there. I%26#39;m sorry I don%26#39;t remember the name of the store.

We saw a great play, ';The High Priestess of Dark Alley';, at the Billie Holiday theatre. We met the cast and took photos afterwards.

All in all, it was a great trip. None of us were upset with the organizer. She did her best, and we all enjoyed ourselves, so there is nothing to complain about.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Maybe I%26#39;ll get to visit them the next time I get to Brooklyn.

Glad all worked out and glad you missed the Fulton st

mall. Come back and see us when you have more time.

Brooklyn really is a fun place these days if you know

where you are going. Next time you organize the trip
