First time long weekend trip to hamptons for NYC young woman

Hi All,

I NEED to get away from NYC for an inexpensive weekend getaway. I need some time to relax, unwind, and straighten my thoughts. I%26#39;m going through alot of turmoil emotionally, financially, etc. I haven%26#39;t had a full vacation in 3yrs and can%26#39;t afford one right now. I will be traveling by myself.

A coworker suggested the hamptons and I%26#39;m ashamed to say, having grown up in the city, I%26#39;ve never been there, don%26#39;t know anything about it. I don%26#39;t have a car and don%26#39;t know how to drive so I will be relying on the LIRR and my own two feet.

I thought the hamptons was a town but now I see it%26#39;s a large area and I have no clue where to go or what to do.

I basically would like simple accomodations, clean, quiet; a plus if the beach is close by; cafe where I can sit and have a light lunch and read a book; a nice bar/club/lounge (nothing wild) to have a laid back cocktail in the evening. I%26#39;m a little on the shy side but am trying to attempt to socialize a little.

Any pointers?????

This is a tough one without a car. There are some motels on the beach but they won%26#39;t be so close to a town with restaurants etc. There are cute inns and b %26amp; b%26#39;s in the towns, but they won%26#39;t be near the beach. I%26#39;d say your best bet would be to rent a room or guest cottage in one of the villages where you can walk to restaurants and shops and then maybe rent a bike to get to the beach. The Southampton Chamber of Commerce would have listings.

enclaveinn.com

has some nice, relatively inexpensive motels, but I think you%26#39;d want a car from any of them. Only other thought is to go to Montauk where a few of the motels on the beach are within a short walk of town but this time of year is very quiet there and some of the motels may not even be open.

Thanks NYWHIZ!

I did a little searching and Grassmere Inn sounds nice. Have you heard of it? Are you familiar with the location it is in? If so, can you or any other fellow reader give me some pointers? THANKS A MIL!
