We are staying in the Westin Times Square beginning April 3. What are some good/inexpensive breakfast diners (pancakes, eggs) in the times square area?

Two diners in the area that are popular with visitors are
Cafe Edison: http://www.yelp.com/biz/cafe-edison-new-york
Red Flame: yelp.com/biz/red-flame-coffee-shop-new-york

Times Square is the Tourist trap area of NYC. Most everything is overpriced and of low quality.
PKSGX has a point: if you want good/inexpensive breakfast diners (or good/inexpensive food of any kind) near your hotel, the very last place a visitor should stay is Times Square.
Since you have already made what I consider the mistake of staying in Times Square, the next best thing you can do is to rectify it by using Times Square for one of the two things that it does have to its credit. No, not theaters: use the big subway station that is at Times Square and get on a train to go elsewhere for breakfast. Instead of having breakfast and then starting your sightseeing for the day, go to the neighborhood you plan on exploring, have breakfast there, and then continue on your way from there, with your subway travelling already done.
I agree about Times Square but if you walk uptown on
8th avenue or 9th avenue you will surely run into
some small delis that serve breakfast. Not the more
well known but the smaller ones. just ask to see the
menu and see what you got.
Cosmic Diner is very good - it%26#39;s on 8th avenue and either 52nd/53rd.
I%26#39;d walk a bit and go to Morngingstar on 9th around 57th.
Otherwise, I agree: Red Flame, Cosmic, Cafe Edison or Renaissance (on 9th around 51st.)
I%26#39;d also check out brunch at Vynl.

Our favorite place in that area was Evergreen Cafe(145 W47th). Cheap, fast service and really good. Much better than Red Flame, in my opinion, and a much more interesting ';diner'; atmosphere.
Galaxy Diner on 9th %26amp; 46th -- $4.95 for eggs, potatoes, OJ, coffee and toast -- one of the security guards at the Marriot Marquis recommended it to us and it was really good.
Right by where you buy discounted theater tickets, there are outdoor tables you can sit at. You can get your breakfast at McDonald%26#39;s or Starbucks and sit outside and people watch if the weather is good.
