We are traveling to Lake George in July, and are planning to rent a cabin away from the crowds of Lake George Village, but still within easy driving distance of everything. We have 3 young boys--6-year-old twins and a 3-year-old.
We opted to rent a small house/cabin directly from an owner, as opposed to going to a motel/cabin community. Actually, it%26#39;s a little less expensive this way, too. We found 2 possible cabin rentals...one near Lake Forest in Lake Luzerne, the other just outside Bolton Landing.
I%26#39;m wondering which area might be better? The Lake Luzerne cabin has TV and Internet access, and is walking distance to Lake Forest in Lake Luzerne. Is that a nice lake? Is it too far away from a grocery or convenience store?
The Bolton cabin is nice, but a little more rustic--no TV or Internet--and apparently a wooded path behind the house leads to a small sandy beach in Basin Bay. Is that a nice place for kids to play and swim? Bolton Landing is 2 miles up the road.
Just wondering about these two areas--any advice? We want to feel like we%26#39;re away from it all, but don%26#39;t want to have to travel too far for some groceries or a diner, either. I know, I know--we want it all! :-)
Thanks in advance for your help!
Lake Luzerne area vs. Bolton Landing?
I, myself would book in Bolton Landing. What is on Lake Luzerne? I believe nothing!
Lake Luzerne area vs. Bolton Landing?
I am not familiar with Lake Forest, but I can say that Bolton Landing is lovely. Your kids will be happy to know that there is a Ben%26amp;Jerry%26#39;s there. Basin Bay itself is quite large and faces east. Plenty of morning sun there.

I would choose the Bolton Cabin myself. You can always bring a portable dvd player if you have one for movies at night, but I bet you will be enjoying a campfire instead! Have fun either way.
Thanks so much for your responses...we%26#39;ve been leaning toward the Bolton cabin, too.
Actually, not having any TV wasn%26#39;t really an issue, although the lack of internet was, for my husband and I--we would normally use it for maps, and planning day trips, and an occasional NetFlix watch-it-now!
But we both really love the idea of a laid-back, nature-filled vacation...and we can have a campfire at this cabin, which is great.
Plus, having a Ben %26amp; Jerry%26#39;s nearby is pretty good, too!
Thanks again...
Well, the Bolton Library has wireless access for some of the stuff you described:

ADK is the destination expert up there and I bet he/she will know if there are any cafes or coffee shops with access as well. I know what you mean. We like to have internet access on vacation, too.
ps The library website has some neat links about Bolton Landing as well.
Basin Bay is a very nice sandy bottom bay with some great views. It is actually in the town of Bolton - but it is only a few minute drive to ';downtown Bolton Landing';. I spend all my summer weekends in Bolton Landing. It is a fun place - very small but there is still plenty to do - with friendly people and a nice variety of restaurants.
Internet access is sparse in Bolton Landing - I usually use an air card. But someone (who???) sometimes leaves their WIFI on and you can usually access it at the Bolton Town Beach.
There are places in town that say they have it as well - but I hesitate to say which is reliable and if they will be there this summer. But with that said, one that comes to mind is on the main street in Bolton Landing in a fairly new 2 story commercial building across from Ben and Jerrys and Franks Coffee Shop.
It seems with the increase in air cards smaller shops cannot make as much money off it so they drop it.
