NYC Affordable, Nice Hotel Girls Weekend

Hi,

Looking to do a long weekend trip to NYC. I have been looking on all of the travel websites for affordable places to stay, but with all of the options, I%26#39;m not quite sure where to start. Two twenty year olds looking for something affordable within walking distance or a short cab ride to the sights of NYC. Would like to stay between or lower than $150-$200 in a nice, clean and safe hotel. Possibly take in a show and go to some nice dinners around NYC, shop and check out the sights. We are from Chicago so we are used to the big city, just not sure which neighborhoods we should be looking in. We have been to NYC before but have not checked out the other neighborhoods such as Tribeca and SoHo, which I%26#39;m sure will appeal to us. Are these neighborhoods within walking distance or would a cab be necessary? Any suggestions for places to go/things to see for twenty year olds outside of the NYC sights would be great, also!

Thank you for any help!! Enjoy your day :)

What do you consider to be ';the sights';?

Whether or not a neighborhood is within walking distance will depend on where you%26#39;re coming from. A cab is never necessary, because you can take the subway everywhere.

What do you want to see? What do you want to do?

First, be aware that some hotels require you to be 21 to check in. If you%26#39;re both only 20, your options may be limited. The hotels that do accept under 21 are usually not the nicest. The Wellington is one of the better options and very centrally located. Prices will fluctuate depending on your dates. If it weren%26#39;t for the 21 issue, I%26#39;d say look on travelzoo.com for sales.

We are planning on coming during the summer, sometime during early June. I understand that some hotels do not allow check in being under 21, and did think about that, but usually there is no problem finding a hotel for under 21.

Maybe I should have rephrased. We would like to be able to walk to some things around our hotel, but have no problem taking the subway to wherever we need to go. If we could walk to places for dinner, shopping, etc. around the hotel, we would be happy.

As for the sights, we would like to see Times Square, St. Patrick%26#39;s, Macy%26#39;s, Rockefellar Center, etc.

Thank you!

With those sights, your best bet is Midtown (between 34th-57th).

You might like the Union Square/Washington Square area - NYU is right there and there are tons of college age students. Because of this, many of the restaurants, shops, etc. are geared towards this age group.

Here%26#39;s a recent thread re: hotels for 18 - 21-year-olds:

And someone recently reported that the Westin in Times Square accepts guests as young as 18.

Thank you both for the suggestions. I will check out that area and the link that you gave me!

The Pod Hotel on 51st is great.

Can you bring over some Deep Dish for me??? (see my Deep Dish pizza post) haha
