Hi,
we are planning a 7 day trip to NYC and we were thinking of doing a small 2 or 3 day trip by car out of NYC in the middle of the week. Any suggestions on where to go?
Thanks
2-3 days trip from NYC?Are you interested in spending time in the country/a small town (possibly w/outdoor activities), or seeing another city?
2-3 days trip from NYC?We may consider all of these.
If you haven%26#39;t been, I would suggest either Boston or Washington. Both are about 4-5 hours on a bus and cost maybe $30 one way.
If you%26#39;ve got 2-3 days, I would suggest either Philadelphia (if you want to do a city) or Lancaster Pennsylvania, aka Amish Country, if you like the idea of a quaint small town/country atmosphere.
Unfortunately, Lancaster County has lost much of its quaint charm imo and resembles more of a ';tourist trap'; than once was the case.
Don%26#39;t know when you%26#39;re coming but if it%26#39;s sometime in June-August, Washington DC will have cheaper hotel rates than Boston (summer is the peak tourist season there) %26amp; virtually all the sights/attractions in our nation%26#39;s capitol city are free. Agree that you shouldn%26#39;t hassle with driving to either Boston or Washington DC. Taking an Amtrak train will be faster %26amp; more comfortable than a bus, but more expensive -- although there are some discounts that might work for you; post back if you%26#39;re interested in those. I was happy with my Megabus ride back from DC several weeks ago: new %26amp; clean double-decker bus, excellent driver. I paid $20, but it%26#39;s possible to purchase a ticket for as little as $1

For a countryside excursion, consider the Hudson Valley (north of NYC) or the Berkshire Mountains region in western Massachusetts, bordering New York state.

Are you interested in the beach? You could drive down to the Jersey Shore and spend a night in Spring Lake or for the true Shore experience, Pt. Pleasant Beach.

Hi,
thanks to all for your ideas. I forgot to mention the date of our trip, it will be last week of May09. I like the idea of going to a beach, is the weather going to be ok for swimming?
May will be too early for swimming.
Daytime temperatures will generally be in the low 70%26#39;s; the ocean waters will still be quite chilly, uncomfortably so imo but maybe you%26#39;re hardier souls. Spring Lake is lovely, and I%26#39;m happy to recommend the Chateau Inn %26amp; Suites:

What do you want to do??? You give no indication of a destination, likes, dislikes - also it may too early for swimming.
When I travel t another country, say the UK, I wanted to see Stonehenge so I arranged a day trip there - what did YOU have in mind for your day trip?
