Baseball Hall of Fame

My husband has suggested we drive from Michigan to Cooperstown for my 15 yr old son%26#39;s spring break early April. Baseball is my son%26#39;s favorite sport and while I too enjoy the game; I am not certain I enjoy it enough to drive 10 hours.

However with two kids in college, we really can%26#39;t afford a trip South. So I am slowing moving toward an agreement but would like any advice from those who have traveled to the Baseball Hall of Fame in April.

Is it worth the trip? Where should we stay? Would staying on a beautiful lake be worth the cost in April? Of course, a heated indoor pool will be the must for me. Do we need to reserve rooms now?

Are there any other recommended attractions either in Cooperstown or on the way that would make me feel even more that the 10 hour drive was worth the effort?

My husband and son would appreciate any nudging you can give me to support them. Thanks, K

K,

Just a couple of recommendations:

1. Beautiful Lakes are always nice to be near. April is still quite cold for swimming in the lake, but nice for hikes. I could recommend some nice waterfall hikes if that would suit you. Just tell me.

2. If you can take interesting roads to get there-- like Rte 20 from Buffalo-- it seems less like 5 or 10 hours of driving, but more like 5-10 hours of fun. Rte 20 is lined with historical villages-- some of my favorite are Skaneateles, Cazenovia, Geneva, Canadaigua, Seneca Falls and Auburn.

3. You might look through these two links for events and attractions that will add to the trip:

4.What would interest you? The Farmer%26#39;s Museum is great and so too the Fenimore house and Hyde Hall. There are some great other attractions near Cooperstown.

Thanks for the feedback.

Great idea on the scenic route and waterfall hikes would be fantastic. Can you tell me more on those?

Your thoughts on the Wax Museum?

Thanks,

Karen

Karen,

As for waterfalls

1. There are three up behind my place, a walk through the woods-- they go from 6 feet to 60 feet in height. The local kids call them Mama, Papa and Baby waterfalls. In summer it sometimes dries out, but in April it is gushing. Its link is here:

2. A most beautiful location for falls is in Van Hornesville, 20 minutes away. At the end of a nature trail there are three waterfalls coming together through limestone formations. If you%26#39;re up, I%26#39;ll guide you there. I miss seeing it myself.

As for the Wax Museum. It is like an art museum. Some of the sculptures are perfect, some a bit more amateurish. Some are really life like.

Sounds like a great place. I will confer with the family. I am now wondering if I shouldn%26#39;t try to coax some other family members to meet us there from PA! Maybe too short of notice but worth a call.

Appreciate your help.

Where from in PA? We love Philly and visit it often. Philly is about 4.5 hours away, Scranton is about 2.25 hrs.

They are a little further south down in Lancaster County; New Holland. Therefore, it maybe a little too far for them on short notice. I have just found out this evening that one of my older boys has a short break from College around Easter so plans could change - although he too would love to see the HOF I am not certain we can coordinate all.

Thanks for all your help and hopefully we get your way.

K,

Look forward to meeting you when you do make it over. Best of luck with the planning.
