where can I get these massive slices of pizza that I always see in films?
Best place for Pizza in NY
Anywhere in Brooklyn, baby. New Yorkers have many favorites, and these have been debated at length. But the long and short of it is that most neighborhood pizza places, especially those in Brooklyn, make incredible pizza.
BTW, New Yorkers eat the slices by folding them in half. Makes it much easier. Also, wait a little till it cools down, or you risk the dreaded ';cheese slide.';

I appreciate your love of Brooklyn, but this is not good advice. Most neighborhood pizza places, including those in Brooklyn, serve up mediocre pizza. And most good pizza places don%26#39;t serve massive slices, either. They generally only sell entire pies.
StaceyAlex, you can read a bit more about the best pizza on the FAQ thread:

However, be aware that the ';massive slices'; you%26#39;ve seen in films look good on camera, but aren%26#39;t considered the best, by any means.
Let me disagree with my pal Alice here. There is a difference between the ';artisenal'; pizza and the standard New York slice. Yes, there are pizzarias that are famed for having pizza a cut above, and these have all been debated on this site. For the most part, you have to buy them by the entire pie - and they are well worth it. Here%26#39;s a shout-out for La Villa, my local great pizza place.
But for the standard NYC street pizza, the ones with the great slices that you fold over and chow down on, they are available all over Brooklyn for about $2.50 a slice. No need for pretension. No need for any fancy toppings. Just a great slice of New York pizza at a reasonable price.
I stand by my statement.
The famous by-the-slice places in Manhattan are
Bleecker Street Pizza:

and Joe%26#39;s Pizza:

The *best* by-the-slice pizza in Manhattan, however, is Artichoke, imo:

The largest slices are at Koronet. They%26#39;re not great, but they%26#39;re so big you sort of forgive their mediocrity:

I%26#39;m hungry after reading this thread!
For what it%26#39;s worth, I agree with Mel. As a native New Yorker, I might make a trip to an artisanal pizzeria once in a while, but if I%26#39;m eating pizza at lunch, I%26#39;m heading to the nearest neighborhood pizza place. It%26#39;s not mediocre - it%26#39;s New York pizza. That%26#39;s what New York pizza is. There%26#39;s nothing wrong with Lombardi%26#39;s, Patsy%26#39;s, Grimaldi%26#39;s, DiFara%26#39;s, or any of the rest of those places, but most New Yorkers do not eat that stuff on a regular basis when they get pizza. There%26#39;s nothing wrong with the classic neighborhood $10 large pie or a $2.50 slice.
I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s fair to call Lombardi%26#39;s, Patsy%26#39;s, Grimaldi%26#39;s, or DiFara%26#39;s ';artisanal.'; Some of the newer, fancier pizza places- yes, but not the classics.
In any case, I stand by my assertion that the best pizza in NYC is most definitely NOT found at the thousands of places where they sell by the slice and offer you the option to get the thing Hawaiian-style.
And in fairness, the title of this thread is ';Best Place For Pizza in NY,'; not ';Most Medicore Oversized Slice in NY.';
But the question itself is about ';those massive slices you see in films.';
Eh, I can see what you%26#39;re getting at, but keep in mind that the ';local joint'; a tourist is most likely to come across is any of the dreaded Ray%26#39;s places. Sorry, but I think that%26#39;s a really crappy introduction to local pizza.
Hence, Brooklyn. :)
