For a sight you%26#39;re not going to see in Manhattan on your average night, head to 34th St tomorrow night to see the elephants of the Ringling Bros circus walking through Midtown.
They close the Midtown tunnel and 34th St every year for the elephants to parade through to Madison Square Garden. The event is scheduled for 11.59pm tomorrow night - I understand the elephants will pass 5th Avenue around 12.20am, Tuesday morning.
I was overseas for this last year and am looking forward to this NYC spectacle!
Elephant walk tomorrow night!Kate: Take pictures!!
Elephant walk tomorrow night! When Ringling wintered the circus in Sarasota years ago when my kids were little, we used to go to see the elephant walk from the train to their quarters. A great sight for sure :)
Two years ago I was stopped at the toll booth of the tunnel because the elephants were just then pasing. All the other drivers I could see had their cell-phone cameras out, taking pictures...
wow that%26#39;s so cool! I definity want to see some photos of that. (hint hint)
Does anybody know when they do the walk back? -- When the circus leaves town, as we%26#39;re in NY I would love to see it. Is it the
midtown tunnel and 34th closed again?
Emma, the walk back isn%26#39;t public and they won%26#39;t tell you when it is.
Sue and Emma - I will dutifully take pictures tonight. :)
bump
A sight to see in NYC for sure!!
We used to go to the Elephant parade here too when my DD was little!!!
So where are the photos????
Give a girl a chance, whiz! ;)
OK all - I%26#39;ve uploaded the pics to TA but they%26#39;ll take a couple of days to appear. I%26#39;ll bump this up when they are public!!
It was FREEZING standing there last night - windchill in the teens, and of course I wasn%26#39;t dressed appropriately at all. They appeared around 12.30 and it was great. I sprinted with them from Park Ave down to Macy%26#39;s - most exercise I%26#39;ve done in awhile. ;)
