I must admit that I have been ';lurking'; on this forum for a few months now planning for our upcoming trip to New York. It%26#39;s part of our youngest daughters high school graduation and hopefully a good senior year spring break, too.
I have learned alot from everyone on here, with the advice given and the experiences. It%26#39;s ALL very much appreciated.
Our trip begins on Friday, April 3rd as we%26#39;re staying over in Orlando for our 9am flight on Saturday morning. We decided to fly into White Plains as the flights were much cheaper into there, even with the added cost of transportation. We%26#39;re staying at The Time, NY. We received a pretty good deal through priceline, but then I got nervous because I started reading that they only guarantee a double occupancy. So I called and in fact that was the case, so for a small fee I upgraded us to a suite and it%26#39;s still a good rate per nite and hopefully won%26#39;t have to worry about the small rooms.
We%26#39;re there from 4/4 - 4/11 and have a lot planned for our daughter. We are going to check out Time Square area and get aclimated Saturday afternoon/evening.
Sunday 4/5, we have a Manhattan Comprehensive tour booked that will hopefully give us an oversight of the City. That evening we%26#39;ll probably go to Chinatown.
Monday 4/6, we%26#39;re confirmed for the Mike %26amp; Juliet show in the am and then we%26#39;ll start using our New York Pass (3 day pass).
Tuesday 4/7, confirmed for the Good Morning America show and then we%26#39;ll continue using the New York Pass.
Wednesday 4/8, finish up the New York Pass.
Thursday 4/9 and Friday 4/10 we plan on leaving for shopping.
Saturday 4/11 we plan to do last minute shopping and lunch and then time to leave for the airport with a late flight out.
My daughter would like to look for her prom dress while in NY, any suggestions?? Are there any deals to be had right now??
Also, any other suggestions I will gladly and openly accept and very much so appreciate. I%26#39;d like to thank every one for all of the great advice you take the time to give on here.
Spring Break Trip-Plans....What do you Think???
Since you don%26#39;t provide any detail apart from using the NY Pass, I%26#39;m not sure how we can really help. It would make more sense if you actually put in writing which places on the pass you intend visiting and the order so we might be able to help you group things together. Otherwise, it%26#39;s really better if you ask very specific questions.
There are quite a few previous threads on prom dresses if you do a search. Here%26#39;s one with a lot of info

Spring Break Trip-Plans....What do you Think???
What attractions/sights do you plan on using the NY Pass for?
As said we can%26#39;t help, if you don%26#39;t actually tell us what your doing!
NYWhiz, thanks for the advice......
Some of our tentative plans thus far:
on Monday 4/6 - NBC tour, Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall.
Tuesday 4/7 - Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island, NY Police Museum, Battery Park, South St Seaport, World Trade Center.
Wednesday 4/8 - American Museum of Natural History, Greenwich Village area, NY Public Library, MOMA.
Places we plan to eat, Bleeker Pizza, Ellen%26#39;s Stardust, Gray%26#39;s, Katz%26#39;s Deli, Great NY Noodletown.
Those are some of our tenative plans. I know there will be more to see with the NY 3 day pass, those are just the ones we really want to hit.
Please let us know how it goes when you get back. I am doing a trip with my 2 daughters, 21 and 17, in May for 5 days. We purchased the 3 day NY Pass and I%26#39;d like to know what luck you had booking the NBC studio tour, etc.
This is how we plan to use our 3 days (of course we are flexible to juggle around as needed):
Day 1: Theatre District Walking Tour, Lunch Planet Hollywood using vouchers, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Bodies Exhibit, Empire State Bldg and NY Skyride.
Day 2: Madison Sq Garden Tour, Greenwich Village Walking Tour, Circle Line Cruise, Madame Trussaud%26#39;s.
Day 3: Radio City Stage Door Tour, Top of Rock, NBC Studios Tour, MOMA, Museum of TV and Radio.
Have Fun:)
Ti2GrLvr2--That sounds ok, except for Wednesday, when you%26#39;re running all over the place. The AMNH is on the Upper West Side, the NYPL and MoMA are in Midtown, and the Village is downtown. I would move the Village to Tuesday--wander around and have dinner there.
DestinationDreams---The Skyride is really more for children than adults--it%26#39;s hard to imagine that a 21-year-old and a 17-year-old would enjoy it much.
I also imagine that, as with Ti2GrLvr2%26#39;s daughter, they would enjoy going to a restaurant that made them feel grown up and big-city sophisticated/sexy. Maybe something like Buddakan:

or Spice Market:

Crans,
Thanks for the advice....will have to look at the scheduling and locations a little closer. That could definately save on time and we%26#39;re also planning to take our time and visit things as we see them or something peeks our interest. We are planning to be very flexible.
The advice is always appreciate. Have a great day and looking forward to coming to your wonderful City.
Also, on Monday, unless you%26#39;re seeing a show, you can%26#39;t just walk into Radio City. But, you can take their guided tour, which gets great reviews.
But that%26#39;s 3 things in one spot: NBC tour, Rockefeller Center and Radio City are all in the same plaza. Are you going to the Top of the Rock observatory?
You can def do other things. In fact, you can go to the Natural History that day.
AMNH and the Met and other museums have ';pay what you wish'; admission at all times.
Although in this economy, our cultural institutions are suffering badly and need every donation they can get, I%26#39;m curious how you%26#39;re being charged via NY Pass.
If it was a good economy and the museums were more flush, I%26#39;d say that you wouldn%26#39;t need the NY Pass for the Met Museum and AMNH b/c there%26#39;s no requirement to pay full price.
Crans, we%26#39;re just doing the sky ride cause it%26#39;s included in the NY Pass and we will be there for the ESB already :)
My girls aren%26#39;t much into fancy eating. We%26#39;ve taken cruises where we do the dress up and eat 4 courses over 2 hours. While on a land vacation we like to go, go, go and eat fast. In NYC our fav are street vendors and delis.
Ti2grlvr2, I saw that the NY Public Library does guided tours on Mon at 11am. You might want to include that into the intinerary. I would check out the geographical location of what you want to do and group them accordingly.
Have fun :)
Destination Dreams,
Thanks for the tip. I will look into it. I hope you guys have a great time on your trip and I%26#39;ll try to get you some useful information while there.
Queens,
We paid $112 for a 3 day NY pass.
