I am ashamed to say i have been to nyc many times as i used to live in conneticut but there are so many touristy things i have not done, i have walked past the empire state building more times than i can remember but have never been inside! never done top of the rock.....too many to mention, on this trip there will be no shoppng (well maybe a little) it is my boyfriends first time and i want to be a real tourist.
just wondered what highlights of people holidays were or for you new yorkers what do you love about your city????
last time i went my highlights were my helicoptor flight, going on the beast (soooo tacky but such fun, i went twice) and altough i wouldnt say it was a highlight because that sounds awful one of my most emotional experiences was going back to ny after 9/11 and going to ground zero to pay my respects.
What are everyones must see's and must do's whilst in NYC.
I haven%26#39;t thought about this for a while until recently. I%26#39;m due to take my mum on her first trip to NY next week so want to show her all the things I loved when I first went. So here%26#39;s my list:
TOTR
ESB (although due to time limits we%26#39;ll just be going up TOTR)
Central Park (The Mall and skating rink - again due to time limits)
Time Square (at night)
Brooklyn Bridge (at night)
Greenwich Village (to show her it%26#39;s not all busy busy high rise :) )
Chinatown (just to see the fish market stalls mainly!)
Staten Island Ferry (to see the SOL)
Will also take her to Macy*s and along 5th Ave
Of course if you are in to Musuems there are loads it%26#39;s just not our thing :)
What are everyones must see's and must do's whilst in NYC.
In no particular order:
1. TOTR (BEST views!)
2. Guggenheim Museum
3. Walk over Brooklyn Bridge the wrong way (ie towards Brooklyn!), and go to this cafe on the Brooklyn side for lovely breakfast.
4. Go to Madison Square Garden to a hockey game
5. Go to Brighton Beach for a wonder around
6. Go to Yankee Stadium (although I always tend to go to NY in winter these days, not been during baseball season for ages).
7. Wander about the East Village
8. Just walk walk walk, and take new things in all the time!
Thanks guys, give me some ideas to look into!
All the usual shops if you like shopping.
I thought I was in shopping heaven!! Got back from there yesterday.
Macys and Saks were my favs.
This is NYCgirl%26#39;s list, which I love copying! ;o)
1) SOL/Ellis Island
2) Empire State Building/Top of the Rock (TOTR is better)
3) A Broadway show
4) A visit to a museum (The Met is the classic)
5) Walking the Brooklyn Bridge
6) Grand Central Terminal (I%26#39;d add the main branch of the NY Public Library, on 42nd Street and 5th Ave.)
7) Central Park
8) Greenwich Village or whatever ';real'; NYC neighborhood that appeals to you.
9) A visit to another boro (The Panorama in Queens or Brooklyn Heights in Brooklyn?)
10) A sporting event, like basketball at Madison Square Garden, or a baseball game (Yankees, Mets or a minor league team if you are here in the summer)
Lots of great ideas, i%26#39;am soooooooooo excited!
Excuse my ignorance, but what is the Top of the Rock?
I think it at the top of the rockefella centre?
yeah, it%26#39;s the observation deck on the 70th floor of the Rockefeller Center. It%26#39;s wonderful!
If you put ';top of the rock nyc'; into GOOGLE, you%26#39;ll get their website:
