We just came back from Garnet Hill Lodge and absolutely loved it! So relaxing and the weather was beautiful. A lot cooler up there then it was in NJ!!! There is no air conditioning in the rooms, but let me tell you-you do not need it. Evenings were cool. We stayed in a room at the Log House (the main building). Food was very good-baked goods made fresh every day. Hiking paths were well labeled. The lake (13th lake) is beautiful. There is an area roped off for swimming. Get a room with a balcony. The owner, Wood, is very friendly. Price includes breakfast and dinner, which worked out well, since there is not too much around. It%26#39;s about 45 minutes to Lake George. Leave the cell phone home-no cell coverage up there!!! Can%26#39;t tell you about Friends Lake Inn-nver been there.

Garnet Hill Lodge %26amp; Friends Lake Inn?

We have been to Garnet Hill twice, both for cross country skiing. Once we stayed in one of the secondary lodge buildings, once we rented a house. The lodge room was nothing special and the house was fabulous. The main lodge is very cosy and the food is good. We love it for X-country skiing and the summers are of course beautiful up there. I%26#39;ve never stayed at Friends Lake but I know folks who have and say the food and views are great.

The trails are lovely but the lodging is just dismal and depressing. The food is terrible, absolutely bad--worse than diner food. The rooms are outdated, threadbare blankets so you have to turn up the forced air heater and you get a sore throat, and cheap construction, so bad that you can hear people in the lobby downstairs as if they were in your room. I%26#39;m not super fussy by any means, but the owners of this place just don%26#39;t care and it shows. The food is literally a joke.

Wow! It%26#39;s too bad... the setting is so lovely!

I have heard really wonderful things about the Friend%26#39;s Lake Inn, though. (The food is fantastic there.) Sorry about your dismal stay at Garnet Hill!
