LGA to Grand Central...

Hi. We just booked our flights and are arriving at 3:15 (on a tuesday) to LGA in June. Our hotel is the Hotel Fitzpatrick at Grand Central. I have read the threads about NYC airport transfers, but I was curious if the public transportation method was any easier given our hotel location (near Grand Central), we are also thinking a Taxi, but I would love to save the $$!!

Thanks so much

There are other things to save money on. Take a taxi.

tip one- for each breakfast find a small deli not one

that you have heard of (stage or carnegie) and have

breakfast there. If you are at the right one it should

cost no more than $5 a day.

..Than what?

You can take the Q 33 bus to the #7 train, which takes you directly to GCT.

Or, take a taxi.

Or, reserve a car service.

The FAQ [frequently asked questions) link appears at the top of the forum index page, but here it is for you to click on right now:

Ok thanks for the opinions... I just thought where in city (like being right next to grand central) might make a difference with the public transportation choice.

kcchica, the FAQ page includes a ';How Do I Get From JKF or or LGA to Manhattan'; link that neatly lays out the airport transport options (also from Newark Airport), including the information that the Airport Express bus service (not to be confused with the panned shuttle services) stops at Grand Central Terminal. That same page gives a link to Airport Express%26#39;s home page to make it easy to ascertain their current schedule %26amp; to compare their price vs. the other options.

I get very frustrated when people simply say, ';oh just take a taxi.'; Some people have to make difficult decisions with their spending and sometimes there are trips that have to be reconsidered due to spiraling costs.

I am not poor or impoverished but there are times I have to say, ';can I afford another weekend in another part of the country visiting these friends or those friends.'; I can%26#39;t afford to do everything (few people can). Sometimes these $49.00 (one-way) fares sound too good to pass up but after another $55.00 to get to JFK Airport, $60.00 to get home from JFK, rental car at the destination, etc.

I typically take the Q. 33 bus from LaGuardia Airport to the 7 train. The 7 train stops right at Grand Central, the whole trip takes 45 - 50 minutes and the total cost is $2.00. It is easy, safe, comfortable, reliable and very straightforward. Why not spend the $25.00 on a nicer dinner or better bottle of wine.

I totally agree with moreFFmiles. Why use a taxi when there is good public transportation for only $2. Heck, that is part of the vacation adventure. Taxi%26#39;s can be used as an emergency back up.

Thanks again for the additional opinions, I am leaning towards trying to bus/subway route for the $ savings. It will be an adventure and since we are so close to Grand Central, it ';seems'; like an easy way to go... (of course we have never been to NYC...)

Now I just need to figure out if I can swing a one day car rental to travel to the catskills for a wedding or if I am stuck with paying for 2 days.

Thanks again everyone.

I have been having fun and learning my way around the city using the TRIP PLANNER option on the MTA website. It even lets you print off the directions. Check it out.

I would suggest looking into taking the NJ Transit train from NY Penn Station to Nanuet, NY. There is an Enterprise Rent A Car office there -(Closed Sunday, but call to see if possible to drop off after hours, I assume the wedding is on a Saturday)

Enterprise Rent A Car

155 ROUTE 304

BARDONIA, NY 10954-2015

Tel.: (845) 624-2600

They will pick you up at the Nanuet train station. You will miss all the fun of the very high priced NYC rental cars, and the thrill of fighting traffic in and out. This puts you in a good place to get to the Catskills in about 1.5 to 2 hours.
