My husband and I will be in N.Y 4th of July weekend. We have stayed in the Times Square area before. We did not eat around there but the location seemed to be great. Is there a better place to stay? Thank you

There are hotels all over Manhattan - what did you have in mind??
location of hotels
If you stay almost anywhere in Manhattan it is fine.
Just learn and use the public transportation system.
Search out hotels that meet your needs and price
range and then check them out with other TA reports
For the most part location is not important if you
are near the subway system and yes it is quite safe
well into the night.

I think Times Square is even less appealing in July, it%26#39;s such a concrete jungle. If you would consider staying in lower Manhattan, the Best Western Seaport Inn has been available for July via Quikbook for $159/night for a room with queen bed, $169 for a king bed. This is a reservation that requires no deposit/payment in advance and can be canceled without penalty, with a minimum of notice.

The Embassy Suites, by the World Financial Center and alongside the terrific Hudson River Esplanade, would be another good choice imo during the heat of summer. You%26#39;d have a 1-bedroom suite with separate living room; rates include an excellent, free breakfast buffet:

Better for who or what? It depends on your likes/dislikes and what activities you have planned. If you plan to spend most nights at the theater, I think staying in or near Times Square makes sense. But if not, why stay there when you could stay elsewhere in a less touristy section near restaurants you might like? The 50%26#39;s west are just above Times Square and yet still conveniently in midtown. The east 50%26#39;s also have some good hotels. Many people like the upper west side and there are a lot of new hotels in downtown areas like Soho, Tribeca and the lower east side. I usually suggest that people identify hotels in their budget on their dates and then start eliminating based on reviews and location.
