My husband and I (both 30yrs old) are coming to New York July 24-28. We can afford $200-300 per night and would like breakfast included. We will be doing the typical touristy things during the day and at night we will want to see a broadway play, comedy show, and go to restaurants or a local bar. I am a light sleeper so I am looking for a location in New York City that isn%26#39;t roudy with neon lights flashing into our window. Thank you for your help.

Try the Hotel Edison - no neon above the 2nd floor. W47th just off B%26#39;way..............

Within your budget there are many options. Often, if you can secure a higher floor, your room will be quieter (less noise from the street).
Check out quikbook.com and travelzoo.com for some of the best values. The reviews on this site should help you assess the hotel quality.
Any of the higher-rated hotels on the Upper West Side would serve you well. My new personal favorite in that largely residential neighborhood, which also has a variety of restaurants %26amp; bars and within easy walking distance to Central Park (especially nice in July!), is the newly-renovated Hotel Beacon.
Rates via the hotel%26#39;s own website for your dates are $195-205/night for a studio room [price drops to the lower rate for the last 2 nights of your stay] and $255/night for a 1-bedroom suite for a cancellable reservation that requires no deposit]; all their units have a fully-equipped kitchenette with new appliances (stovetop or range, microwave, refrigerator, etc.) Note that this price does not include state %26amp; local surcharges and sales taxes that will add a regrettably hefty 15% to the cost of your stay.

The Murray Hill neighborhood is another mostly residential neighborhood. The nicest deal for that area I%26#39;m seeing for your dates is the Eastgate Tower, another suite/apartment style hotel. Right now, Travelocity is beating Quikbook on the total price (including taxes, etc) on all sizes of the units there. The least expensive would be a studio suite at a total of $732.36 for the 4 nights. Booking with Travelocity will require full advance payment, but you will get a full refund if you cancel by noon of the day before your arrival.
The Eastgate would benefit from an update, but it%26#39;s clean and comfortable %26amp; you would have full kitchen facilities there too.

Hope this helps you get started!
I often stay in Queens in the Queensboro area. For less than the price of a dumpy room in Manhattan, you can get a suite, or just opt to save the money and save even more. The downside is there are fewer restaurants in the immediate area (although a short few subway stops put you either in Manhattan or Greek town in Astoria in about 10 minutes. This is frequently faster than the UWS. If this interests you, PM me for details
The Queensboro area? There is no such place. There is a neighborhood in Queens called Queensborough Hill, but it is miles from Manhattan and has no hotels at all. I suspect that the neighborhood you have in mind is LONG ISLAND CITY, and specifically that section of it near the street called Queensborough Plaza at the Queens end of the Queensborough Bridge -- the name ';Queensborough'; being the alternate name for the entire borough of Queens.
It is never a good idea to invent new and unheard-of names for neighborhoods that already have names...
It%26#39;s not common for hotels in NYC to include breakfast and many that do have just a continental breakfast that%26#39;s not great. There are loads of places for inexpensive b/f all over Manhattan so I wouldn%26#39;t make b/f a deal breaker. One notable exception to this is the Embassy Suites downtown in the financial district which includes a FULL cooked to order b/f and would be a lovely place to be in July as it%26#39;s a block from the river and offers a lot of space. It wouldn%26#39;t be the most central location though.
Many first time visitors like to stay in/near Times Square. I don%26#39;t particularly recommend it as it%26#39;s very touristy, but there are some decent hotels nearby. The Casablanca is one that does a cont. b/f and of the chain hotels, the Hilton Garden Inn Times Square North includes cont. b/f. I think the Residence Inn does too.
But for a couple your age, I%26#39;d suggest you stay in one of the newer hip boutique hotels. The Hotel on Rivington fits the bill in a trendy young area. They do include a cont. b/f in their room rate and I%26#39;ve seen some good rates for them on quikbook.com recently. This is in an area with lots of bars and restaurants and some good boutique shopping.
6 Columbus which is in midtown and any of the other
thompsonhotels.com
which are in downtown areas are also good bets but no b/f. Check prices on quikbook.
I agree the Beacon is a good option in a nice area.
I stand corrected, I meant to type Queensboro Plaza. I have not figured out yet if it is possible to edit my post once submitted. Thanks for pointing this out with such tact and humility.
LN - unfortunately TA has not yet succumbed to the multitude of requests for allowing us to edit our posts. You can stop looking for that way to edit now. ;)
I agree with the experts about the Upper West Side.
The Beacon looks like a good choice. The reviews are positive and another person mentioned it too in the posting. Thank you for your advice.
